Due to the many positive reactions of participants in previous winter training programmes, SaarRowingCenter will again be running a training programme in Amsterdam over the winter in 2017/2018. This programme is aimed at scullers looking to put in some dedicated work to improve their technique and fitness in a single or double scull. The aim is to prepare rowers to race the Scullers’ Head or the Doubles’ Head on the river Amstel in Amsterdam. The actual decision to race is, of course, all up to you.
The winter training programme is open to advanced or experiences scullers who are able to row comfortably in a single or double scull even in winter.

Upon request, we are also happy to coach crews in larger boats; please get in touch to discuss things like the location, intensity and boat type.
Location and accessibility
In Amsterdam, we are the guests of Poseidon Rowing Club, at the river Amstel (Jan Vroegopsingel) in Amsterdam. Poseidon is a friendly, hospitable rowing club with good facilities. There is limited parking space at the club. If there is no parking space available at the club, cars may be parked at the large car park at Joan Muyskenweg (Mercure Hotel). This is located around 10 minutes (on foot) from Poseidon. Poseidon is also easily reached by public transport, with Spaklerweg metro station just a 10 minute walk from the club.
Our rowing water
Rowing and coaching takes place on the river Amstel and/or on the Weespertrekvaart canal, which is easily accessed from the Amstel. Weespertrekvaart is a sheltered canal, very suitable for technique work. Coaches will accompany their rowers by bike, coaching from the bank. Participants wishing to explore the racing course in preparation for the Scullers’ or Doubles’ Head of the Amstel will be rowing on the river Amstel, again with coaching from the bank.
Participants will be rowing in a single or double scull from SaarRowingCenter. Of course, you are welcome to use your own single or double instead, if you prefer.
For rowers who live further from Amsterdam, the winter training programme on the Regattabahn (regatta course) in Duisburg-Wedau can be an attractive alternative. Another option is to do one or more sessions in Amsterdam and one or more in Duisburg-Wedau. For more information about the winter training programme in Duisburg-Wedau, please click here.
