Rowing in Dreisbach
This is our special location, since SaarRowingCenter was founded here. We are rowing here for several years on the river Saar, which gave us our name. After all these years, we and our participants are still impressed by the unique surroundings and the peace and quietness here. From late spring through early fall we provide a continuous program of courses. Dreisbach an der Saar is located between Trier and the Luxembourg border, and is an excellent place for rowers looking to improve their technique or novices wanting to learn to row in a single scull.
Rowing water
In and around Dreisbach, the river Saar, a tributary of the Moselle, flows through a beautiful stretch of nature. The sheltered location means the water on the Saar around Dreisbach is usually flat. Fleet
Participants will be rowing in a Wintech Club Racer, Competitor or International single scull or in a Wintech International double/pair. Starters without any rowing experience, will learn how to row in a Wintech Explorer 24. When selecting a boat for any individual participant, we make sure the weight class of the boat matches that of the rower. The boat will be fitted with shoes in a suitable size and the grips of the sculls will be matched to the size of your hands, as women’s hands tend to be smaller than men’s. Using smaller grips can help them maintain a relaxed grip and therefore a relaxed body posture.
Lunch
The course fee includes a daily lunch. You’ll enjoy lunch in a charming setting about 2 km from our boathouse: at the Saarschleifenlodge. By the way, you can also stay overnight there.
Coaching
During the outings, your coach will accompany you by bike, coaching from the bank.
Stay
Travel and accommodation are arranged by the participants of our courses themselves. There are several accommodation options in the vicinity of Dreisbach. The Bootshaus in Dreisbach is set up as a venue for training camps of competitive rowers and for touring trips. The Bootshaus is owned and operated by the Ruderbund Saar.
Accommodation can be found on the internet, for example the Saarschleifenlodge located near to the river Saar, the Jugendherberge Dreisbach (where you can also book single and double rooms) or Hotel Mettlacher Hof.
You can reach Dreisbach by car, train or plane. The train will take you from Cologne along the rivers Rhine, Moselle and Saar – a particularly scenic journey. From Mettlach or Merzig train station, it is just a short taxi ride to the “Bootshaus” in Dreisbach. By plane you have to fligh to Frankfurt or to Luxembourg. For Frankfurt – Dreisbach you can use the train, for Luxembourg – Dreisbach it is wise to rent a car.
