Seville

In autumn and winter, Seville in southern Spain may safely be regarded as the Mecca of rowing and canoeing. It is a favourite location for training camps for elite crews from many countries. And of course for SaarRowingCenter. Twice a year, in March and in October/November, SaarRowingCenter runs a course/training week here for rowers in single scull, 2x, 2-, 4x, 4- or 8+.

Rowing water

The outings take place on a branch of the Guadalquivir river with no current. We row on a 7 km stretch including the international regatta course (2 km) looking out on the Expo92 buildings on the bank. To the north of the regatta course, the river flows through natural area, whereas the southern part of the stretch of rowing water has a more historic and urban character and will take you through the centre of Seville. In your boat, you will pass under several emblematic bridges and will be able to see the Giralda tower and San Telmo Palace. There is very little traffic on the river, apart from a few sightseeing boats on the southern part of the river, along the water front of this historical city.

Fleet

Participants will be rowing in racing singles or larger boats, mostly Empachers, we rent from the CEAR La Cartuja. Apart from single sculls, rowers may participate in 2x, 2-, 4x, 4- or 8+. To participate in the larger boats, please register as a crew, rather than on your own.

Coaching

The regular course/training week is for advanced or experienced rowers, some of whom, but certainly not all, will be looking to race in Head races or regattas. Individual, dedicated coaching will help you refine your technique. We regularly receive rowers who use the training week in Seville to prepare for the Dutch races “Skiffhead”, “Tweehead”, the Head of the River or the “Heineken Roeivierkamp” that take place in March.

Accommodation

In Seville, we use the excellent facilities of the international rowing centre “CEAR La Cartuja”, located at walking distance (20 minutes) or at an easy cycling distance from the centre of Seville.

Participants will make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation. Limited accommodation is available in the sport hotel at the rowing venue, or at the 5* hotel nearby (walking distance); however, most participants prefer to stay in downtown Seville and explore the city’s vibrant night life.

Seville is easily accessible by airplane. The city is about 20 minutes from the airport by bus or taxi. You do not need a car to get around in Seville: the interesting part of the city can be covered by (rental) bike or walking, and from the city centre is is only 10-20 minutes to the rowing centre where we are based.
